Others in this line have low performance too, but not this low, and also tend to do "more" for the price paid. Here, over-applying makes the ambroxan and fake woods become super sharp and abrasive, just like when they get intentionally overdosed in a modern "banger", which takes a perfume I might have been indifferent about due to middling performance and turns it into something I absolutely hate. John Varvatos Artisan Blu Eau de Toilette da uomo 125 ml Eau de Toilette Artisan Blu di John Varvatos da uomo. We were given a reasonably good-smelling citrus wood scent that really is cut short by the intentional lean towards lower performance, since with the heavier Varvatos fragrances, you can get around this "feature not a bug", by simply over-applying. You have a well-crafted mostly/entirely synthetic freshie built for cost but not 100% smelling like it is, by a master perfumer who understood the client's needs and executed accordingly. I know this is a pretty short and sweet review when I've usually had more to say about fragrances from this house (for better or worse), but Artisan is too cut and dry for lengthy expositions. I'd say this is only really a casual summer scent at best, and despite the masculine lean early on, can be quite unisex because who doesn't love neroli? Wear time stops at only 4 hours and sillage goes out to lunch about half-way through it. Ginger and some woody aromachemicals move into a base of ambrox and clean musks, something pretty new in 2009 for sure. Majoram round this up, and a bit of dry medicinal lavandin brings the masculine clean into the heart. Here, we have a nice juicy clementine orange and tangelo fruit medley crossed with neroli, achieved for cost with a number of synthetics at least for the neroli if not the orange. Rodrigo Flores-Roux was still very much unofficial house perfumer during this period of Varvatos production, on something of a permanent loan from Givaudan to Varvatos while they were under Shiseido distribution, something that ended sometime after EA Fragrances picked up the license and began abusing it with over-researched and marketing-driven garbage (see the JV x NJ line). I sorta call this the "4711 effect", and it's something I like to avoid outside a traditional cologne. That said, I think this is at least competent for a discount price, even if you'll end up draining the 4.2 oz bottles a lot faster than you might suspect with needed reapplication throughout the day. I'm personally not the biggest fan of this house and I have tried many, including flankers of this before finally getting around to the original itself, so I had a bit of familiarity and tempered expectations going in. The scent is rather short-lived and weak by the performance standards of most modern "cologne bros" but such is the case with most of the Varvatos house to begin with, since Varvatos doesn't like strong fragrances and prefers them to be more of a second-skin. Artisan by John Varvatos (2009) is a staple and surprisingly non-aquatic fresh fragrance that kicked off the long-legged line of the same name, with a now-iconic wicker wrap around the standard Varvatos bottle.

Our prospective home buyers will use those plans as a “good start” towards designing their own custom home plan or they will supply us with a custom house plan from a different source. While we may have thousands of standard home plans to review, we rarely build with them. The modular construction process results in a home that is built better, greener, faster, and with a fraction of the headaches presented by traditional, on site construction. Modular homes from Impresa Modular are no different – we build our homes using similar techniques. The component parts in any home (for example, a light or a floor truss) are manufactured in a controlled factory environment according to precise specifications and tested to ensure that they meet design standards. Our modular homes combine the best practices of traditional, site-built construction with the technological, economic and environmental advantages of creating your custom home in a controlled environment. More often we are exploiting our modern modular construction techniques to deliver truly custom homes for our happy customers. We offer hundreds of standard plans, but they are used as a mere starting point to be modified by customers to meet specific lifestyle and housing needs. Our team of expert consultants achieves this while maintaining our core beliefs of quality, customer satisfaction, service and value.
You can easily sync your music between your Windows PC, Android and iOS devices. MusicBee makes it easy to manage, find, and play music files on your computer at no cost. If you don’t want to manage files and just want a player that can help you manage your music and listen to it, MusicBee is one of the best software out there. You can get the newer version at a discount price if you already use WALTR 2.ĭownload: WALTR PRO (Free trial, $35.00 annually, $300 one time payment) 2. If you want to easily transfer files between your desktop and iOS devices, WALTR PRO is the software to get as it has got all the bases covered to be a notable alternative to iTunes. For this feature alone, WALTR PRO is worth its price. Every file transferred through WALTR PRO is treated as a native file. This means that I don’t have to use any third-party software to listen to my songs or watch videos. So, if I transfer a video, I will find it in the Videos app. Whether it’s music, videos, PDFs, ePub, or audiobooks, WALTR PRO automatically recognizes the files we are sending, and converts and pushes them to native Apple apps. For instance, if you have a MKV file, WALTR PRO will automatically convert it to Apple supported file format while transferring. Moreover, it also converts the file format to those Apple respects. I also love the fact that WALTR PRO supports every kind of file that we generally transfer. Its WiFi connection is as fast as the native AirDrop and transfers music and pictures in seconds.Įven the big video files just take minutes to transfer from my Mac to my iPhone. With WALTR PRO, I can either connect my iPhone using cables or WiFi. You can also use the license for other apps from Softorino. While this software comes with a considerable price, it is very convenient and powerful. My favorite iTunes replacement software is WALTR PRO. With that said, let’s get started, shall we? Well, all I’m trying to emphasize here is that the need to have a complete iTunes alternative had never been so essential before, irrespective of whether you are on macOS Catalina, Mojave, Monterey, or on Windows 11.Ĭoming back to the question of which iTunes-like software can be right for you, take a close look at your needs i.e movies/shows management, music management, or iPhone/iPad management, and then go for the tool that fits into your requirements. As for the newly launch Music and Apple TV apps, they are too sophisticated to let you manage all of your tracks and videos with the desired flexibility. Besides, even though Finder does a pretty good job of managing the iPhone, Apple’s versatile file manager still lacks quite a few essential features like the option to let users restore data selectively. One of the Newport book stories was about the copper works at the Pullman railcar factory and how, in the early 20th century, they made what could be considered a big spreadsheet on the wall of the factory to track projects and labor. (I do my team-based stuff in Basecamp.) Because I don’t need it to collaborate, it doesn’t need to be a web service. But in this case, I’m looking to make something that only I’ll be tracking. Trello, monday, and Notion all look like they’re up to the job. So over the weekend I went down the rabbit hole of the current crop of Kanban-style apps. I tag all active projects in OmniFocus as an “Active Project” and then set a custom perspective to surface only active projects.īut I also know that I think visually, and the idea of a Kanban-style status board for my projects does have a certain appeal to me. Traditionally, I keep lists of active projects in a text file (currently in Obsidian). While it has nothing to do with email or collaboration, this got me thinking about how I’m managing my various projects when wearing my lawyer, podcaster, blogger, and field guide producer hats. He explained that as a college professor, he manages graduate students using a Trello-based Kanban board. One of the things Newport talks about in the book is finding alternatives to email for different kinds of work. I recently read Cal Newport’s A World Without Email: Reimagining Work in an Age of Communication Overload. And ultimately, it is why I wanted a visual representation of all the active projects in my life on one screen at any time with just one swipe. It is also the reason I am constantly making diagrams, charts, and workflows in OmniGraffle to sort complex things out in my own head. That is the reason why if you ask me for directions, I will draw you a map instead of giving you directions. My brain works much better visually than words. The problem was that I was still letting things drop through the cracks. I have been using OmniFocus tags for project tracking for years and the doing the same with Obsidian since I first started using the app. You are correct.” It is more work, but it is very little extra work in the grand scheme of things. This means I’m duplicating effort setting up the Status Board and giving myself one more thing to keep updated and current as I work. So with a few key presses, I can put myself in perspectives or views that give me this data. Both OmniFocus and Obsidian have excellent tag support, and I’ve already implemented these same tags in them. Because all of my projects are already in OmniFocus and Obsidian, I could already have very effective lists showing projects that are active, on hold, on radar, and any other status using tags. Again, this board is not shared with my team, so collaboration is not necessary.Īnother frequent criticism was that this whole process is unnecessary. OmniGraffle’s advantage is how I can combine multiple Kanbans on one screen and my total control over how things look and where they are on the screen. You could also do this with any number of dedicated Kanban-style apps and services. (I use OmniGraffle for legal- and MacSparky-related graphics.) You could build this as a PDF or even a Pages document. In my case, I already paid for a license, and the app was already on my computer. Several folks are interested in the idea of a status board but don’t want to pay for OmniGraffle. The trivial amount of time it takes to do this manually helps remind me of what the active projects are and where they stand. I’m going to set time aside to explore that further, but I’m not in a burning hurry. The Omni Group has some excellent new JavaScript-based automation tools that would let me automate OmniFocus and OmniGraffle’s process. This often prompts a “checking in” email to whomever I’m waiting on. I also check all the “waiting on” blocks to see if anything changed over the last few days. If the project changes status, I move the block. If I finished a project, I delete the block. (Click to enlarge.)Īs part of my daily shutdown, I take the Status Board out of preview mode and make adjustments. To add a link in OmniGraffle, select an object and then select “Open a URL” in settings. The developers release a new version every few weeks, so the rate of innovation and new features is astonishing. If you want to use ChatGPT 4.0, you can uplift your license for an extra $8/mo for unlimited use. I would suggest the “Pro” version, which includes unlimited use of ChatGPT 3.5 turbo. It also has hundreds of free extensions, with more every month. I literally use Raycast dozens of times a day. It’s vastly better to Alfred, for me, in every way. However, this year I switched to Raycast and could not be more happy. For years I recommended Alfred as the Spotlight replacement. ( Free/Pro $8/mo ChatGPT 4 +$8/mo) Raycast is the new and modern replacement for Alfred. And the response wasn’t a copy/paste from their KB. I recently opened a support ticket, and had a reply with a full resolution in literally less than 5 minutes. Should you ever have a support issue, Flexibits has literally the fastest and best support ever. It also has built in weather, natural language input, and more. One of the features I like best and literally use daily is joining an online meeting, such as Zoom, with one click from the menu bar. It always has Day 1 support of new headline Apple OS features like Focus Modes and lockscreen widgets. It can give you a single pane of glass view for a large range of calendars including iCloud, Google, Microsoft 365,, , Zoom, Yahoo, Webex, MS Exchange, Todoist, etc. Fantastical is one of those apps that prevents me from ever going back to Windows.įantastical has won Mac app of the year award (2020), and is both visually beautiful as well as functional. ($4.75/mo) Fantastical is one of those must-have calendaring apps that is supported across the Apple ecosystem (macOS, iOS, iPadOS, WatchOS). Note: Download 1Password for Mac directly from their website. 1Password’s 128-bit secret key adds the critical extra layer of protection that Infosec professionals trust. I would not say that of any other cloud based password manager, as most all other apps rely solely on a master password to decrypt your vault. When done right ( like what 1Password does), storing a password vault in the cloud does not really increase the risk of your vault being decrypted by a threat actor. There’s a big misconception that storing passwords in the cloud is less secure than storing them locally. 1Password also has support for Passkeys, which is the future of secure logins. 1Password also has routine 3rd party security audits, which they publicly publish the results. If you are using any password manager other than 1Password I would urge you to strongly consider migrating. Infosec professionals that I’ve seen lately only recommend two options for password management: 1Password and Bitwarden.ġPassword has much stronger protection of your password vault than Bitwarden ( 128-bit secret key plus your master password vs. Security researcher after researcher pick 1Password as the best option, with an extremely high bar for security. Given the recent Lastpass security breaches, and their horrific security practices coming to light (not to mention their deceptive public statements and even outright lies), using a highly trusted password manager is a must. It has clients for macOS, iOS, Windows, Android, Linux, and many browser extensions including Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Brave, and Edge. (From $2.99/mo) 1Password is an awesome cross-platform password and privacy manager. You may be able to restart the download from there.įinally, try logging out of the Store to see if that restarts the download. Delete them, then reboot your Mac and try to download macOS Monterey again.Īnd, if that doesn’t work, try opening the App Store and clicking ‘View My Account’ to see if there is anything in the ‘Unfinished Downloads’ section. If you’re still having problems downloading macOS Monterey, try to find the partially-downloaded macOS 12 files and a file named ‘Install macOS 12’ on your hard drive. It may also be worth switching from a Wi-Fi connection to an Ethernet cable, to ensure your internet connection is as reliable as possible. If you're running low, open up the Apple menu, click 'About this Mac' then go to Storage > Manage and free up some disk space there. To make sure you do, open up the Apple menu and click on 'About This Mac.' Select 'Storage' then check to make sure you have enough space on your hard drive. Typically, a macOS download fails if you do not have enough storage space available on your Mac. Not enough disk space to install macOS MontereyĪnother of the most common macOS Monterey problems is not having enough space on your computer. If it has a green dot, then there's no issue, but other colors suggest there's a problem with Apple delivering the update. There should be a section labelled 'macOS Software Update'. You can also check the live status of the Apple Server to make sure everything is alright on Apple's end. If you think this is the case, try again later on a non-peak time to see if the download works then. It may be because a lot of people are trying to download macOS Monterey at the same time. There are a few reasons why you may encounter this issue. That content can’t be downloaded at this time. Installation requires downloading important content. As a family of five with all different pallets we had a lot of meals here and it didn’t disappoint. This was the buffet on the Ziva side and offered plenty of options to choose from. In the afternoon we would head here for some ice cream and popsicles. They also have a small selection of sandwiches & pastries that I would bring back for breakfast. Coffee Republic opens at 6:30 am and has a variety of coffee drinks. I’m a coffee lover, so I was thrilled to see that the resort had its own coffee shop on site. The buffet also had a carving station, pizzas made to order and a dessert station that will make your sweet tooth very happy. The kids loved the made-to-order pasta station, while my husband and I enjoyed the fresh seafood. We ate most of our meals at the buffet which offered a wide variety of food. For some reason, we were not offered a kids menu at several of the restaurants and I learned later that it is something you need to request. All of the sit-down restaurants offer a kid’s menu except the buffet. We also had our fair share of the 24-hours room service that is included as part of your stay.Ī few things to keep in mind while you are there with kids. We were able to try out all of the restaurants during our stay except for the club-level only restaurants. The resort has 12 restaurants and 14 bars. All rooms face in toward the resort, so the standard rooms are the ones on the lower floor. However, I was excited to learn that there are really no rooms with a bad view. Since we booked our stay on points I wasn’t sure what kind of room view we would get. Including shampoo, conditioner, bath gel, bar soap, toothbrush and toothpaste, razor, shower cap, and sewing kit. Inside the bathroom, you were given plenty of amenities in case you left anything at home. It offered a separate room for the toilet, double vanity, and large shower with a rain head. The kids and I loved hanging out on the oversized chair each morning and afternoon. The balcony was easily our favorite part. Our room was spacious and well-appointed, with two queen beds, a sofa bed, a large bathroom and a balcony. Once we finished checking in, someone helped us with our luggage and gave a quick tour of the resort. We also could have added club level to our reservation at any time during our stay. We decided against the club upgrade, but they ended up upgrading us to an Ocean View room on the top floor instead for no additional cost. This comes with premium liquors, access to the club pool, access to additional restaurants and a private butler. Upon arrival to the resort were greeted by friendly staff members in their beautiful open air lobby.ĭuring check in they asked if we wanted to upgrade to the Club level for $85 per day. The hotel is located about 30 minutes from the Punta Cana Airport and we used Dominican Plus as our transportation. If you are booking in the off-season, you can get your room for as low as 21,000 points per night for double occupancy. The lady I spoke to at the time said the daily cash rate for three kids would be $250 per day in total. I spoke to a representative from Hyatt and they said the best option would be to book a room on points for two people and add three kids on cash. I tried to look for the option to book 5 people in a room, but it doesn’t look like the hotel is offering that very often. I should note that when we booked our trip, there was a glitch in the Hyatt system so we actually only paid (in points) for two people, but had five total in our party with our three kids. With the signup bonuses from each, we had more than enough points to book. Both my husband and I have the Chase Sapphire Preferred, as well as all of the Chase Freedom cards. We booked our stay using Hyatt points that we transferred over from our Chase Ultimate Rewards. When the kids asked to go to the kids club, my husband and I would typically head over to Zilara for some adults-only quiet time by the pool or a nice dinner for the two of us. What I loved about this resort was how easy it was to visit both Ziva and Zilara during your stay. We stayed on the Ziva side with our three kids. Both sides offer luxurious accommodations, plenty of activities, and top-notch service. The Ziva side is geared towards families, while the Zilara side is adults-only. The Hyatt Ziva and Zilara Cap Cana are two all-inclusive resorts that are part of the same property. (This review is written by Julie from Family Trips and Travel.
